PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

Director, Cloud Engineering
Java Platform Group

Feb 2003 - Present

I started my career with Oracle in 2003 as an experience intern with Oracle Wireless Server 9i development team at Oracle HQ, Redwood Shores for 1.5 years. I worked on JDeveloper Wireless Extension kit which allowed J2ME and web-app developers to quickly develop  wireless applications on Oracle wireless platform. I conducted hands-on session at Oracle Open World 2003 for wireless application development. I moved back to Singapore and joined Oracle Asia R&D Center the same year the center was established in Singapore.

I played many different roles and working with presales and Oracle consulting working on projects around  APAC. I have had made 2 major software releases - Linear Tape File System - Library Edition (LTFS-LE)  and StorageTek Tape Analytics (STA).

In LTFS-LE, the product was built from scratch and we gow the team from 2 engineers to 12. A great experience not only about building software but releasing and giving training and support to the field as it was a new product then. This project was a collaboration with US, Singapore and China. STA was a smaller scale project with the team focusing more on the UI and UX part of the system. We developed various BI graphs for analytics for dashboards and other parts of the system.

I am the Security Lead for Oracle Asia R&D with the responsibility of ensuring the proper training for engineers to have secure development practices training. I review projects and the final signatory for products developed by the group to ensure all security checklists are completed and adhered. I am Chief Architect of the group and I led other architects and team leads in their product or other engagements to ensure reusability of their work across the organizations and sound implementation. Part of the Oracle Product Architects' Community (OPAC) represented by less 1% of the technical community in Oracle where we discuss and work together to chart Oracle's product technology directions.

FOUNDER, VOIDDECK VENTURES

May 2017 - Present

Co-Founder and lead engineer for  Voiddeck Ventures Pte Ltd (www.voiddeck.sg) a not for profit company whose mission is to empower non-profit organization to gain productivity by using technology and contribute to build a community and mentoring young software engineers who are looking for opportunity to give back to the community.

We provide an cloud-based, open source CRM system based on CiviCRM for organizations at cost recovery model and help them to maintain and operate the systems. We build applications such as Attendance Tracking System for events/classes on top of the CRM system. We would like to expand and provide other typical back office applications suck as ERP and HCM so that organizations can operate more efficiently while not worrying too much about the IT expertise. The team had successfully run trials over that past year and now we are ready to move forward and assist more non-profit organizations in their digitall transformation journey.

We have mentored aspiring engineers who are final year students from the tertiary education and those who are new to the workforce. We worked together to help these non-profit organizations by doing projects together and by doing so sharing experiences and giving pointers. This active mentoring has been effective as it is a combination of soft and hands-on approach that gives everyone a chance to learn together and achieve a specific goal.
